Making Meaning

Home: Welcome

Approach

As an experienced Psychotherapist, Angela welcomes her clients warmly to a safe, nurturing space. She works with clients to identify and clarify concerns and goals, to support difficult decision making, build strengths, enrich relationships, to make meaning and forge purpose. Rapid changes make complex concerns and Angela supports clients to manage unexpected life changes.

Drawing on neuroscience research, how we understand and respond to feeling safe or unsafe, and developing a deeper understanding of habits and lifestyle choices, Angela supports clients to identify unhelpful patterns and create positive goals. A strong emphasis is placed on building communicative relationships based on foundations of trust. Her counselling style is collaborative, fluid and adaptive.

Angela works with couples, families and individuals. She is experienced working in relationship counselling, relationship breakdown, grief and loss, building resilience, personal growth, emotional regulation and supporting the development of communication skills.

Bio

Angela’s work is informed by broad life experience and formal training. Working toward building purpose and meaning has been an integral aspect and driving force behind her professional career. Initially creating a successful arts-accommodation social enterprise in the French world for 15 years, then bringing these skills and experience back to Tasmania. Angela maintained a small business consultancy in parallel with teaching French classes because she believes that small business provides the fabric of our community and language  opens minds and expands thinking.

More recently, following tertiary mental health qualifications and post graduate trauma training, Angela has worked as a trauma therapist and is a member of the EMDRAA. She held the statewide position of Senior Practitioner for the Disability Royal Commission Counselling Service, provided couples and family counselling, worked with change management, dispute resolution, suicide prevention, grief and loss. Angela has also supported developing communities with communication skills and dispute resolution support.

Her practice draws from clinical training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Polyvagal Theory, Family Systems Therapy, Gottman’s Couples Therapy, Schema Therapy, Solutions-Focused Therapy, Somatic therapies and workshops in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. She has also completed certificates in Complex PTSD and sense-making.

Membership in broad international networks in both French and English allows Angela to draw on rapidly evolving research into numerous evolving fields of  psychology, neuroscience and their intersections with personal development and well being. These include;

  • The microbiota of the gut-brain axis and consideration of how life-style aspects influence psychological well being.

  • Psychedelic Assisted Therapy. Psilocybin and MDMA may soon be approved by the TGA in Australia for therapeutic usage guided by appropriately trained therapists and prescribing doctors. Angela has trained in psychedelic harm minimisation and offers education and support to assist clients consider their intentions and goals for psychedelic therapy, or to integrate their experiences. Please note that Angela will not jeopardise her practice by engaging in any practices that are illegal nor provide information for access to illegal substances. Her practice intentions are uniquely for harm minimisation and psycho-education.
